Default Sprint User: Looking to upgrade to a smartphone

Attn: Sprint users

Taska & I use Sprint as our cellular carrier (primarily because Sprint offers a decent data card allowing us internet access 'out in the sticks'). I preface this point to my thread because I'm not interested in folks suggesting "Try Verizon"..."Go T-Mobile"...etc. Verizon dumped me from their "Unlimited Data Plan" a couple years back when I purchased a PS3 and began gaming online with their data card plugged into my Kyocera Wi-Fi...so Verizon will *never* get my business again. And therefore, as long as Sprint can stay afloat, they have me as a customer.

That said, my contract is up for renewal and I want to ditch my 'simple phone' for a 'smartphone'. Appreciate that the biggest reason I'm considering a smartphone is for web surfing. It is my hope that a smartphone with web capabilities would allow me to surf the web occasionally while at work...but NO LONGER ON my work PC -- I've not gotten myself in any trouble at work that way, but given employers' general disapproval of web surfing as well as upward pressures to reduce staff in these economic times, I want to eliminate the opportunity to be a candidate for dismissal, etc. Anyway, so web surfing is a biggie. I know I want text and e-mail (definitely yahoo, gmail & hotmail e-mail accounts...but perhaps I'm showing my ignorance here as those may simply be considered 'web sites' more than specifically e-mail such as work e-mail?). I suppose I'm partial to a full QWERTY keyboard, but that's because any past texting I've done using just a cell phone keypad suckkkkked lemons...and made me hate the idea of texting. Primarily, I surf some message boards such as s2ki, TiVo, fatwallet, and I like jumping out to eBay and craigslist occasionally. But I also definitely enjoy keeping up with business & tech news blogs throughout the day. Not too much of a facebook kinda guy, but I do enjoy multimedia...so where I see phones that offer "Sprint TV

BlackBerry Curve. You can tether it to a laptop and use it like you would a data card. I hate surfing the web with the device -- nothing renders correctly.. but, as a modem with a standards compliant browser on a netbook, it's pretty much the greatest thing ever for surfing at work.

Thanks! Curve definitely touches my 'tight-arse wallet' heartstrings .

Been doing some ROM surfing tho'...and might just spring for a HTC Touch Pro to enjoy >> all these toys <<. Now flashing to THAT'd be what I call a purposeful device , and potentially well worth the coin.

That said...can I expect to find similar ROM support for BB Curve?

Thanks. The 'battery life' comment is an example of what I dig about the ROM offering I linked in my OP. That ROM flash includes a few widgets that apparently do wonders in curtailing this device's power consumption.

^^^ Yes, I'm afraid I have . That looks best to me for sure. And has a community that supports various ROM upgrades that I'd like. After my credits, it'd run me ~ $300 from Sprint right now -- [that's the *afraid* part I first referred to ]. We'll see...

Is this what you have Ric?
