Default Test pipe/Emissions

I want to get a test pipe for the sound/performance gains. However, I'm a little concerned about emissions. I don't care about taking it off for emissions testing once a year, but I'm concerned in the off chance I'm pulled over. Does anyone know the fines for getting caught in VA? Thanks for the info!

Just to give you a heads up, its an expensive fine if you get caught with no catalytic converter in your car. I don't know the exact dollar figure, however it is several thousand.

I'm not sure if all of VA is now only testing emissions through the OBD port, but if it is, then as long as you get the O2 CEL fix with your test pipe emissions shouldn't be a problem... unless the station you go to actually looks for the convertor....

As far as fines are concerned, as Chad said, getting caught without a catalytic converter is VERY costly... I personally can't remember an exact dollar amount either, but it is definitely in the thousands...

Gotcha, thanks for the info....I wouldn't go get the car inspected with the test pipe on, but knowing my luck I'd get Officer Hillbilly who would bust me to hell and back if I got pulled over. To keep this going, anyone actually know the exact law? I tried searching online by wasn't very lucky...

PS....C45P312, haha I said the same thing when I saw your name

I might remind ya (unless you do all your own mechanical work)... Don't forget that "officer hillbilly" also visits regular ol' service centers [that also inspect]. And if he sees your car up on the rack for an oil change, you're cooked.

I forget which one, but I read a tread about one Test pipe, that has tabs so you can put the stock catalytic converter shield back on....

Be sure to turn your car off if you get pulled over. The smell may give you away.
