I'm glad to see you might be interested in joining the military. However, no offense, but if you are thinking twice about joining a certain armed forces because you'd be sent to Iraq, you might as well stop your thinking about joining the armed forces. Other than the Coast Guard, anytime you sign up for any armed forces branch, you need to accept that you will be eventually be sent overseas in hostile area's. I served in Army for a while, knowing full well that when I signed up, Desert Storm was under way. I accepted the fact that the chances of me going oversea's was a good one. Re-evaluate what you want out of the military and the pro's and con's before you sign up and raise that hand.

I didnt realize thats how it sounded when i said that. I didnt mean it like that. I am fully prepared to go to war if needed. If i do decide to go Navy, i was honestly thinking about trying out for the Seals. Sorry for sounding like a jack ass, haha.

No worries. Just wanted to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. A lot of kids have misconception's about the armed forces, and when they finally join and go through basic and their MOS school, reality hits them hard.

If you're thinking about the SEALs, then I'd highly recommend knowing what BUDS (their version of boot camp) is all about first. This is a really good documentary that follows a group of potential SEALs through it. It really made me gain a new found respect for them.

Oh, and I hope you really like freezing cold water. Lots of it.

I've been in now for over 14 years- like any other job, it has its good and bad points......

If you are really thinking about joining the Navy, choose a rate that will allow you to get a better paying job once you decide to call it "quits" or retire - if you choose to do 20 or more years.

Here is one rate that just emerged a couple years ago....

I'm a few days late on this posting... but oh well.

Hmm, I think you got it backwards. Handling the physical side is the easy part, not the mental. You can get your body through anything, just ask Admiral Stockdale. Then again, I'm just a spoiled Hornet pilot.

Navy enlisted side is rewarding, but often times _very_ unglorious. You start out cleaning heads and taking out trash... then a little while later you're doing good stuff. Yeah, the pay aint so hot at first, but you get taken care of...

I have many friends in the military. My roommate is an officer in the Marines... My best friend from school flys A10s with the airforce and my other buddy from school is training to fly fighters for the Navy.

Honestly, if your looking for the easiest-safest way through everything go with the Airforce.

Or what about joining a National Gaurd facility? They have a real nice facility in Baltimore... at the Martin State Airport

Hey Matt

I'm in the Navy, I'm currently stationed in Groton, CT. I am a submariner, but I will tell you from my opinion the navy has lot to offer both as a carrier and has a way to get life experience to presue other carriers outside of the navy. Now I am not a recruiter I am just a guy that loves what he does for a living. If you have questions about the navy feel free to contact me I'll give you the no bull answers.

Drew

If you what to go SEAL you might want to look in to EOD, Driver, or the SWCC programs too.
