Default Tint & Alarm Install

Hi all,

I just picked a '06 GPW S2000 . So far I'm loving it but can't wait to finally have the engine broken in and not have to worry about keeping the revs down.

Anyway I'm looking to get the windows tinted (probably 35%) because I should be off to sunnier places. I'm looking for a reputable shop in the NOVA area. I read somewhere that someone recommended California Tint in Tysons. Any confirmations on that?

I also am probably considering an alarm, just in case I want to leave the top down with out locking it all up. It seems like the consensus is that DEI makes a good product. I've seen the Python models at Circuit City, but are those as trustworthy for doing a quality install? I just want to get it installed once and set once. I don't want to have to go back to get things fixed, readjusted, etc. Any suggestions for the NOVA area? One person did mention that you know that Best Buy and Circuit City will be around in case you have problems down the road.

Thanks for the help!!

Congratulations s2k Aloha.

A lot of people have been going to LA Tint. It's one of the better places around here.

As for your alarm, try Tweeter. They may be your best bet. Also, when bringing your car in, make sure that you don't give them your address. If they say you need to for warranty purposes, go to another place. Some places don't have honest employees and you may wake up or come home to no seats. (They're a hot item)

So other people will probably chime in to give you more advice. Have fun with your S and please be careful. Also make sure you read your owner's manual.

I know a guy through a friend that does tint. I have actually been considering putting together a "tint day". If several people were interested he may do it pretty cheap. I've seen his work on my friends Accord and can say its top notch. The film that the shop uses is the 2nd most important thing. Lumar and the film that Quality Tire (in Woodbridge) are the two that I can vouch for. You'd have to call QT, I can't remember it off the top of my head.. too excited about getting my new wing mounted.

Congrats on your purchase and color choice as well!

Congrats on the new car. I haven't seen any of the 06's yet. Make sure to come out to one of the meets we're having.

Tom, Just out of curiosity, anything specific about being careful and reading the owner's manual? Or are you just talking about using common sense with the vehicle (break-in period, not driving fast/recklessly etc) or are you referring to something more specific about the S?

Thanks to everyone else so far for the input as well!!

Matt

Tweeter does a great job. Just had some stuff installed there....rather cheap for a job well done.

Tint - I also know a guy who works for one of our local tint shops who is willing to do whatever tint you want for your s2k for $50. They have done cars for me in the past and it looks perfect and they will redo it for free if you have any problems. I vote for a "tint" day (I need this car done)

If you're buddy will do it for $50 I think that's a bit better than my contact. I'm definitely in for $50-100... You should give him a call and see what he thinks.

Sometimes you get what you pay for(referring to film quality). I had my S done at LA Tint in Sterling(they have several shops). I believe NO S8NT did as well, but am not sure. I do know that other owners have had theirs done there.

I promise you, however, that it will not be a mere $50. I think I gave a $10-$20 tip.
