Default Transporting motorcyle

Hey guys,

Just bought a GSX-R600 today! It is in baltimore, MD, however, and the seller is not willing to let me borrow his tag for the transport down (it will only be about an hour, and just for that day, I told him I'd send him the plates back in the mail). He is a police officer and says that he has seen too many bad things happen with borrowed plates, and is unwilling to budge. Any ideas on how I can transport the bike down here (by riding it - I'm not old enough to rent a truck yet)? Can I get temporary tags for the bike? Thanks for any help!

-Stefan

you'd have to get the title signed over to you and then all the tag crap taken care of at a title place before you can get either a temp or hard tag. if you know a friend with at least a half ton pickup you'll be able to haul it no problems...you'll just need a ramp onto the truck

....hell i've seen bikes hauled on the back of 2 wheel drive rangers

Unfortunately the dude does not have his title yet.. He just paid his bike off today with my deposit, and is waiting for the lien holder.

If you wanna play it safe, have him meet you at the MVA in his area, have him sign it over to you, go inside and request a 30 day temp tag for the bike, drive it home.

Option 2: Do what dan said, have a buddy with a pickup haul it home for you (or rent a uhaul pickup).

Option 3: Risk it and drive it home plateless, just have all the paperwork on you and if you get stopped just tell the cop you just purchased it and you are driving straight to your DMV to get your tags. Usually MD cops will let you slide, I drove my s2k home from bowie (about a hour and a half) plateless. MD cops are pretty leanient with that stuff unless you run into a complete dick.

Goodluck.

Have him ride the bike down to your house, and then just give him a ride home in your S.

I have extra sets of car plates, but no bike plates or I'd let you borrow some. Sorry

you can make it ... JUST BELIEVE ...

Another point would be to ride really fast, thus spending less time on the road and reducing your odds of getting caught ...

A bill of sale and his copy of the title (the copy) is sufficient to register it. Let the VA DMV worry about getting the original title from the lien holder.
