Maybe... lets really support this bill..pass this email around!!!
We know our cars look so much better with no tag!
"On January 9, House Bill No. 280 bill was introduced in the Virginia General
Assembly . This Bill would change the number of license plates for VA
residents, from 2 to 1, for passenger cars. If passed, it will become
effective 7/1/2002.
Please contact your representative to support
this bill, since we all know our cars look better without the front tag!!
I'd like to get a petition to do the same thing in Maryland. I took my front plate off too...looks way better.
It would also save the state money, as they would only spend halk as much on the metal, special reflective paint, etc.
I'll bet the cops would raise a fuss because they like to point their laser or rader at the plate. Which reminds me I need to get one of those laser/rader shields for the front.
MD driver here. I never put the front plate my 98 Z24. Three years and 68k miles later I've never been stopped.
The S2000 doesn't have a front plate either. Besides even if you do get ticked, it's only a fine not a moving
violation.
Let me share my front plate experience. I drove a Porsche with no front plate for 10 years, and was never ticketed by a cop once -- although I was pulled over several times for impromptu discussions about speed, lane changes, etc.
3 of those years the car had MD plates, and 7 of those years it had VA plates. Tho one and only time it was ticketed for no front plate was by a meter maid when my meter ran out in DC! DC never fails to find ways to generate more revenue for waisteful spending! But no worries, because the ticket did not involve much money or any points (a non-moving violation).
I was once pulled over by a cop in Columbia MD while driving my Porsche. Interestingly, he walked around to the front of my car and said something along the lines of: "I have a Corvette, and I don't use a front plate either." Imagine that!
When I bought my S2k in September 01, one of the first things I did after returning from the dealer was remove that but-ugly front tag. Honda dealers sell color matched plugs for the holes exposed in the front of the car after you remove the tag frame, so you can maintain a clean look. Tag removal, plus Rick's badges is a killer combination! The last thing I did to clean-up the front end is add a stainless steel grill cover to hide the ugly parts exposed by the stock slats designed by Honda.
Regardless of my no-hassle experiences of running front-plate-free, I'm going to contact my legislator to support the bill. One plate per car is enough.
You're going to need a LOT of people to email and mail letters of support. Texas has had a similar bill pending for some time now, and the lobbyists for PPG or DuPont or whoever makes the reflective paint that goes on the plates have been working hard (and presumably padding some pockets well) to ensure that that bill never sees the floor.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so send out those letters and for the love of God, register to vote so that you can see that the sucker out who votes against it when it DOES hit the floor isn't re-elected!
