VIR After Action Report
Brenda and I got home a little after 10pm. The weather cooperated--we only saw a couple of snowflakes--both at the track and on the road.
Sunday was great day for us. Matt took the pole for the entire Thunder field, then went on to win his race division. Rene lowered the TTB record he set yesterday and recorded another TTB win with a 2:08.3!
Calvin met his personal goal for this year in his first race weekend! He qualified 11th out of 18 Spec Miatas and finished 10th to meet his goal for a top 10 finish in 2009.
Mani met his goal of successfully completing a checkride so he can sign up for the NASA comp school. Congrats guys!
I met my personal goal of breaking the TTC record but unfortunately my competitor in the RX8 PTC race car broke it too with a quicker time. My 2:16.7 in a street legal car exceeded my expectations but a TTC win would have been nice.
I want to personally thank Matt and Rene for their advice and coaching to get me up to speed on the VIR Full Course. Their in-car video was an excellent learning tool.
I'll post pics and video tomorrow. Calvin has some freakin' excellent video from the SM races.

Congrats to Rene, Rob and Matt for setting track/group/personal records this weekend at VIR. Congrats to Mani too. He got signed off to register for the next comp school, which is in March at VIR.
The weather turned out great and the track was dry the vast majority of the time. I have pics that I'll post tomorrow, and a video clip from my race on Saturday that I'll post over the next few days. I didn't get any video of Sunday's race. I think the camera auto timed out since I sat in grid 30 minutes before the race. That's ok though since Saturday's race was so much more excitied and full of off's and crashes. I was a lot calmer on Sunday - faster too by almost 2 seconds.
I also qualified 17/20 spec miatas on Saturday and finished the race 15/20. Then today (Sunday), I qualified 11/18 and finished the race 10/18. As Rob was saying, my goal for this year in SM was to get a top 10 finish, so I'll have to shoot for something a little higher. It might have been because the field wasn't that big. Who knows. I'm just glad I passed comp school and fisnished this weekend without any contact. Two of my SM comp school classmates had metal-to-metal contact on Saturday.

It was a blast hanging with you all and the +1s.
Got my check ride complete to qualify for comp school, I am very happy to get that done with a new car. Spent the entire track weekend on a car conservation mode(stock tires, stock brake-pads) and learnt a lot about the way a E36 handles. I need suspension real bad, I was driving a boat out there.
Friday, I ended up driving the whole Kart Enduro solo as Rob and Calvin weren't done with their classes. 60 minutes, 65 laps, non-stop, it was COLD too!!

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome and letting us hang out in the villa Sat. We enjoyed getting to know you all a little bit better.
The real congrats should be to you guys. Calvin did amazing in his first race weekend, and his enthusiasm is great. Mani passed the chek ride, so he'll be out there battling w2w soon too. Rob, don't be hard on yourself...we're do-it-yourselfers, that RX8 did 12's and is professionally maintained at all times(by a team of mechanics). I didn't do 16's my first time to VIR, and my car was more "built" than yours. Thank Brenda for the hospitality and the snacks, and for helping entertain Meredith and Helen. Having Meredith at the track is great, but it's always easier when there are women she can hang out with.
Overall a great weekend. You Mid-A guys do it right, that's for sure. I need to get to the track with you all more often, so the enthusiasm and fun can rub off on me. It's been becoming more and more like work to me.
Hopefully more of you can make it next time, or maybe later in the summer.
