Virginia cops? How bad are they?
I am driving through towards miami from the NY area. Any places where I should be really careful driving around? How bad are the cops? How fast should I go? I have a passport 8500 detector...thanks in advance

best of luck to you. i would just keep up with traffic on 95. you'll see the sign about radar detectors being illegal when you cross the woodrow wilson bridge in alexandria (look for potholes on and near the crossing).
reckless is 15 over.
fines aren't too bad though.

I got pulled over once and played dumb. He asked me for my license and registration, saw my out of state driver's license and then I did this...
"What's a registration look like? Huh? Is it this paper right here? No? What about this one?"
Got me out of an 80 in a 55.

Ya know, it might just be me, but I hardly ever see anyone pulled over between Richmond and DC. It's especially wierd because almost every time I make the drive, I get passed by someone doing near or over triple digit speeds.

If you do 75 mph between Woodbridge(mile marker 162 on I-95) and mile marker 100, you will not get pulled over. In fact, you better not be in the left lane as you will be cursed and passed. I usually go faster, but I know where the state police sit. I'll pay attention to the markers when I go to work today.
When you enter Hanover County, however, I would take it down a notch. They are known for throwin' da book atcha!
At the bottom of the state, it's hit or miss. If you see two state police within 5-10 miles, chances are they're on a hunt!
It seems they're more interested in the "aggressive" drivers- the ones weaving in and out of traffic. Those types are more apt to cause an accident than just someone speeding.
BTW, I'm sorry, DaveZ. When I pass you
, just wave

Just before MM 137(at bottom of hill) when traveling southbound! They had someone pulled over this AM. Then there was another one just before Exit #143.
I you see one... look for another one!
What kills me is the amount of people that slam on the breaks and cause the "accordian" effect. That's what causes accidents! If you can see 'em, he's already seen you.
