Default When to switch to Summer Tires from Winter Tires

So I just got my S2K a few weeks ago and the guy included winter tires with the sale (which were already on the car). When should I swap the wheels and put in the summer tires? It is getting warm now. Also when in the fall should I put the winter tires back on?

Thanks,
Eric

at a minimum you should switch to summer air in the tires....
Winter air is too heavy for summer driving and will adversely affect your gas mileage

...Glad I could help

Temps were in the teens. I can't say my friend wasn't out driving his ability, he clearly was. But I know from the problems I was having in the days before it happened, cold weather and summer tires was one factor.

as bighead pointed out, it really depends on the weather. summer tires don't work so well below 40 degrees. for DC/ northern virginia area, that usually means around late november / early december.

i usually put summer tires on in late march / first week in april. so far, march 2008 has been pretty warm so i may put on the summers earlier this year.

if it's easier to remember, you could say the time period is approx. from thanksgiving to easter, plus or minus a week or two (at least in my case).

The above occured the day after Thanksgiving. I'd change to winter/all-seasons closer to Halloween if you want to use a holiday as reference. We have cold nights pretty early.

so THIS is your old Suzuka you told me about...

i was very wary of driving my summers in winter at first, but i didn't feel like driing on stock wheels with an ings kit. i always took it easy in the beginning. but it's never, ever lost grip or even hesitated at all no matter how i drive but i am very wary and i still never try to drive the car anywhere near its handling limits. with normal driving, and even mildly spirited driving, the RE-01Rs have proven to be VERY reliable.

These were stock S-02's in the back and mismatched with something else in the front... the way the dealer sold me the car. I didn't know any better at the time, I had only had the car a couple months and probably only had 10 posts on this forum.

What works for you though may not work for everyone else. If I were you, I wouldn't advocate against proper tires though just because you've had some luck. Know what I mean? Honestly, I think we lucked out with a pretty mild winter this year.
