College Park parking is ridiculuosly far
why are people suggesting College Park? That's still in Maryland, not DC

Coming south on 95, college park is one of the closest metro stations to you.
Greenbelt is probably closest (fastest) but not by much. CP has a garage, greenbelt has a big parking lot. Greenbelt is easier to get to because it's its own exit off the beltway.
Take your pick

When you leave, you can get a reasonably priced hotel in that area. Another option, if you want to spend some cash, is to go to the Gaylord National resort. I am sure they can assist you in obtaining a comfortable trip through the area, possibly by boat.

Where is the metro in Georgetown?

I know its too late now but Crystal City parking is free and like 2 metro stops away from the white house.
Just FYI. I went last weekend and they were already on the downfall, along with the rain we have had this week in the beginning I really don't think there will be much left to look at.
Not to rain on your parade but I wouldn't want you to waste a drive.

How confusing...I hope the OP made it!
I went with my niece and her family to the Nats/Red Sox game yesterday and the subway was packed! We were like sardines in a can. Baseball peeps and cherry blossom peeps together. To top it off, they closed the Pentagon City station and that created a real mess, since trains were stopping on either side and couldn't pass through.
Thank goodness we were going to Rosslyn and not beyond.

Everyone, thanks for all the help! I parked at Georgetown & took a cab to the basin area. On the way back, we walked from the Lincoln Memorial to Georgetown. This was my first visit to Georgetown & I havent been to DC since I was a little kid. All I can say is.. Wow! I never knew Georgetown was such a nice area. We had a great time & definitely will visit again.
