Teaching chics to drive a manual transmission in my experience is ALWAYS a very stressful, near death experience. I've taught 2 girls to drive stick. They are both pretty decent drivers now though but during the process...good lord.

My Dad and I took the S for 40 hours nonstop - we switched seats when we got gas and even slept in the passenger side. It really wasn't bad for the road trip - and we covered some ground pretty quickly

Shorter than me (who is 6'1") and I think the S is fine on a long trip.
