WTB: Used 9mm handgun
You guys are naive. In the state of maryland believe it or not, a burglar has rights. Im not sure how VA is, but if someone comes in my house, they are not leaving alive, and there will be a weapon in their hand after Im finished. Sad that its that way, but thats the world we live in.
Its pretty cut and dry, If a juror sees a pistol grip pump shotgun in the prosecutions hands, it doesnt look very good. The average Joe would not buy that. You can buy what you want for HP, but Im not a fan of jail, so I stay away from using that type stuff for protection

Thank you for some decent posts, people. Yes, I want my family to learn to safely use a weapon, but don't get me wrong- it ain't for hunting. That leaves protection as the primary reason for teaching them.
Diane, don't hate me for speaking the truth, but you're a woman. Despite all efforts to become equal, women aren't in many ways. As pertains to this conversation, a woman claiming self defense passes more easily than a man. A woman could use a Howitzer and it wouldn't be considered overkill.
I'm not saying men are "better." I'm saying men and women are not equal, nor should they be. Otherwise that would be a lot of homosexuality. And I'm not for that.

I can't remember if it was posted here or not, but anyone catch the story of the 11 year old (?) that was home with her grandmother when burglars broke in? They saw it as an easy target... what damage could an little 11 year old girl and an old woman do? Unfortunately for them, the girl had been skeet shooting since she was 9.
The girl grabbed her fathers shotgun, and by the time one of them made it to the top of the stairs, she was on her knee and unloaded right into his midsection. She managed to wound the other guy while he was scrambling to get out and was captured a sort time later.
Of course, Snopes has this one as "undecided", but even if not true in this particular instance, it certainly points out that when properly wielded a weapon in the home can be a lifesaver.

But on a more positive note, despite the fact that women generally have poorer eyesight than men (we generally have better hearing), we are considered better shooters (and surgeons). Studies have shown that under duress, our blood pressure is lower and our hands steadier than men. Something about our primitive instinct to protect our children, etc.
