Can't get it replaced/fixed? Was it a 60 GB model? It'd be worth the effort to get it fixed if so.

its a 60gb model..i was in the middle of a COD4 game when the whole system went out and I was only on it for an Hr. there was no power surge ( plugged in surge protector) or no abuse. So i called Sony and said they said it sounds like a power supply failure, and they would charge me like $148 ,just to even see whats wrong with it...meanwhile no PS3 for weeks. Best Buy said they would charge me $89 to sent to Sony, to do the same. BTW, the COD4 disk is still the system. what to do

take it apart, get your game out. sent it off to get fixed, buy a new system, sell the refurbed system on ebay.

If you can, I'd say just go without it for a bit. The 60 GB has an edge over all the other PS3s because its ps2 and ps1 emulation is hardware and not software. Or, you could buy a Sega Genesis

Sega Genesis sucked compared to its competition, the SNES.

Sega Dreamcast was another story....

i bought my 60gb on july 2nd of last year. no problems ever. all software up to date and just put a 250gb HDD in it. as long as its dusted and kept well ventilated it should be fine. i've never heard of a power failure before though. i'll look into it.

IIRC, there were some overheating problems initially, even for those that were properly ventilated. Fortunately for me, we've had zero problems and have had it since Day 1 of release.

Good luck with your plight.
