Resurrected post !
Hey guys,
not posted here before, but found out yesterday that I have a job offer in Dubai to move there in April/May!!!!
I am determined to get back into at least one Honda when I get out there so need some advice please.
Where do I look for a new shape ITR (dc5) and a S2000. I want to get both used preferably to save some cash.
If anyone can give me any advice, websites, contacts or guides into buying cars in Dubai that would be great as I have never lived there.
Would ideally want a JDM import DC5 with a SC but hey, thats just me being picky!
Thanks in advance

Hi Dennis,
Welcome to the forums (This side!) You may find used S2K, bit difficult but not impossible.
JDM spec DC5 is surely not available, we have LHD vehicles here. And JDM is RHD. Anyways the DC5 doesnt come here, so far i have seen 5-6 which are converted from RHD to LHD, parts were imported from Canada, if you want this vehicle then you better import it from States or N.America.
See around the pool soon!

Thanks Umair, my name is Paul btw! (surname Dennis)
I think I could be out there as soon as end of April, still waiting to hear, but would consider a CTR also. Test drove old EP and new EP here and wasn't that bothered with them really (DC2 was much better so went for that) but I guess at short notice I could get away with a CTR for a year.
Maybe a 'charger would make it more interesting?? I have read mods in Dubai are an issue? Would a 'charger get authorised by the feds?
Thanks in advance

Hey "PAUL"
Charger is not an issue, lots on the roads.
Mods is an issue lately, but mods that are not visible are not an issue and how you drive is also noticed. Hope it eases a bit soon, hoping for it.
If you are planning to do bolt ons and not external mods you are fine.
You will find lots of use EP3 around and well priced as well.

While I have you here, can you let me know what sort of costs and processes I have to do with cars over there?
Ie: Over here, we have road tax, insurance for drivers, MOT annual car test etc
Whats the deal over there?

Here you have the following:
- Insurance is a must (Comprehensive or third party) Depends if the vehicle is financed or cash purchase.
- Every year police passing and registration renewal (AED 500)
and thats it. Insruance rates are quite good, but for sports cars its a bit high, no worries will hook you up with deals.

Paul,
I'll add in on this conversation...
You can purchase a new S2000 relatively cheap right off the showroom floor too.
I know my car was $19,000 Canadian cheaper here than back in Canada. Insurance set me back 7000 AED and I'm 30 years old.
That's my $0.02

Hi Paul,
James here and fellow brit - Haven't seen a DC5 here ever and S2000s are rare beasts - you see far more porkers, fezzers, Lambos than you will see S2ks - one of the main reasons why I love this car - also, they can never drive them so you can embarress them when it gets twisty

Paul, you may find buying a new S2000 relatively affordable here, so that may be an option.
An EP3 can be a lot of fun as well, the VTEC cut in is much more aggressive than the S and never fails to put a smile on your face (yes, ex EP3 owner here!) As everyone has already mentioned, no DC5 here and mods are ok as long as they are not to conspicuous!
Good luck with the move and see you soon.

RIGHT!!!
This has suddenly taken off again, I will be there by May 1st!! YAY!
I am after an EP3 for starters I think, then develop on to an S2000 when my wife gets a job confirmed. We will need to extra storage and seats to start with!
I have looked at Souq and Evolve, and it seems like an older EP3 can be had for around 40,000 Dhs
Umair, can you scout around and see what is about please as you said you might be able to? Or anyone else for that matter.
Any colour is fine, and would prefer something that would be easy to get into my name and I will be living in Dubai. (I know nothing about buying a car in Dubai so help advice on the legalities would be great.)
Let me know whats about ya'll
