#@%&! ME!
Yesterday I find that my car will not do a thing when in reverse gear.
You can put the shifter in reverse, but the engine will not die, nor will it go anywhere in rewind if you let the clutch out. The syncros are fine....5th and reverse share the same one and 5th works great, and 6th gear also works perfectly. I can let the clutch ALL the way out....the motor simply idles (does not die as it should), and the gear itself makes a noise that is some where between a whine and a grind...not loudly, just enough to hear it.
After a few phone calls, I am 99.9% sure that the reverse gear itself is totally gone. So, I am staring one of two choices in the face. One, rebuild the tranny. This is by far the more expensive option....$1700 in labor alone, that is without parts - and I am betting the parts are in the same price range as the labor. Two, find a low-mileage transmission to replace it with and spend about $1200 or more for just the tranny, and then another $900 w/tax in labor and shop fees.
For right now, I am going to be as patient as possible and see what develops. The biggest problem is getting it in and out of the garage....but it is managable, especially since we are close to the time of year when I don't drive it that much. Either way, I am farking pissed. My wife and I are not as financially stable as I would like us to be, and this is something that does a lot more harm than good....especially after just putting an engine in two weeks ago.

If it can, Tim will figure it out...hang in there man but this should be it for you...things usually come in 3's....so you already lost a finger, lost an engine, and now an tranny. It should be downhill from here buddy... (sorry man, thought a little humor would cheer you up)...
