Question At a crossroads with my S2000 ownership

Hey all,

I’m at a decision point with my S2000 ownership. I was rear-ended in a low-speed collision at a red light. The culprit was in a small SUV and so did not hit much of my bumper, but instead hit above. I’ve settled with the insurance company and now have to decide what to do with the car. The body shop tells me the rear panel (part # 66100-S2A-A01ZZ) is unavailable. I have searched online and can’t find this particular part, and the last example appears to have been listed on eBay a year ago in June. Just before the collision I had the upgraded AP2 valve retainer upgrade done along with other work by Robert at RC’s Adrenaline Factory along with other upgrades already on the car, so I wasn’t planning to sell it.

I think my options are:
  1. Keep it and look for the part to pop up online
  2. Keep it and see if someone could fabricate a replacement body panel. If anyone has a recommendation on fabrication let me know as I plan to reach out to Adrenaline Factory soon
  3. Sell it
Any thoughts? I know Honda was going to remanufacture parts for the S2000, but I can’t find much information other than the initial announcements. It seems like these new parts might have been distributed through the Japanese dealer network only. Unsure on this. Anyone know an amazing metal fabricator in KC?

It makes me sick seeing this. I don't personally know of any great metal fabricators here in KC, but hopefully someone else here does. However when I do a search I found the same part for the AP2 which is still available. I don't see any difference between them visually from the images.

They are different, there was a change in the mounts for the AP2 tail lights. Don't recall all the details, this is back when people were swapping AP2 tails to AP1's. Not sure if there's any other difference, I do remember the tail light mount issue though.

Found a thread about it - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-el...wiring-183447/

Looks like you can use the AP2 rear section on the AP1, issue was only if you wanted to swap to AP2 lights on an AP1. So, you should be fine. Hopefully.

also
A Solutions Auto parts. Contact them and see if they have what you need. They are a great salvage yard that focuses on specific types of cars like the s2k.

Are you saying I do NOT need to order new headlights in addition to the body panel?

No, not new lights, but the panel may need cutting to fit your old lights. Post above said the AP2 panel was still available but there are differences between them. A body shop should be able to make the necessary modifications to fit your car and tail lights, just need to tell them it’s not a direct replacement.
