so this is in interesting twist.

I am in favor of the ability of a company workforce to be able to form a union but I don't get this open registration stuff.

I am rather attached to the private ballot which is not subject to coercion.
The suppression of organization is a no-no however.

Union should have to ratified annually or bi-annually with the capability to vote out.
A closed shop rule should require an 80% vote.

might be a popular statement might not but unions served there purpose 40 years ago, as a matter of fact a lot of businesses would frankly be better off without them now.
