Default AirSoft

Saturday, February 5th, 2005.

I invite about 35 guys out to this wee place at the Speedway called "The SWAT House"

Only three show up (including myself). Go figure.

So, us three suit up.
- paintball mask, check!
- gloves (driving/baseball/racer XTrEMe YO!), check!!
- jeans or long pants, check!!
- tv shirt, check!!
- heavy sweater OVER tv shirt to help pad, check!![/b]
- $40, CHECK!

Sam (owner or co-owner) asks us if we want a MP5 or a M4. Me being the CounterStrike fan, picks the M4.

MP5 - Counter-Terrorist primary weapon

M4 - Basically a police version of the military's m16

Sam then asks if we want a pistol. Me thinking it'll add more weight and I'd probably not use it... decline. They both get a glock.

After a short briefing regarding rules such as engagement rules (<5', don't fire), etc, etc.

We first run a session or two with the weapons on semi-auto (one pull of the trigger per round). All the pistols (AFAIK) were Semi-Autos... hop-up kits allow full-auto, apparently.

In the first session, i die quickly. VERY quickly. We had respawns, where, after 2 respawns (three lives) you're out completely.

Second session... I didn't like the M4 size, as I couldn't switch from righty to lefty quickly (which resulted in two of my deaths in the previous game). So, I opted to go to the Mp5 and got a pistol (some 9mm). not as bad, still died.

Third session, we went full auto. These guns seriously shoot the BBs (6mm) at an insane rate of fire. amazing for a "toy".

After the like 8th game, I started to get the hang of aimming the weapons. At one point, i had my Mp5 in my left hand watching my left flank, and my pistol in my right watching the right side. I got tired of being blasted when not looking.

We got there at 2:15p and left at 5:30p... fully exhausted of playing. We basically played where there was four customers and three employees for a total of seven folks playing.

Zana and I originally were going to leave due to the low turnout, but Sam was very very nice and gave us three a discounted rate. We got all of the above for $20!!!!!! What a freakin DEAL!

to cliff notes the experience:
Pros:
- Staff is VERY VERY friendly and willing to help you out, True enthusiatists...they remind me of Dennis at LDL. Dennis is about the sport, not about the dollar. Likewise, Sam is about the sport...not the dollar.
- the weapons are very well maintained. None of us any any real issues with the weapons... except one (later).
- depending on your budget, $40 is an excellent price for 2 hours of shooting fun.
- I didn't get all dirty/smelly from getting hit with the BBs...did sweat though.
- You can have actual scenarios (ie. hostage situations)
- you can run, lay down, jump, etc with the weapons, the BBs won't break...unlike in paintball
- It teaches you a little about real firearms
- 3000BBs = $30; 2000 paintballs = $40
- the field will change everytime you go there.

Cons:
- It's located at the Speedway which may be inconvenient for some people
- They only have 12 rentals.
- One of the rental weapons magazine didn't stay in perfectly. It was very usable, just could be pulled out without using the release
- Battery operated... meaning, recharging recharging recharging (wasn't a problem for our rental guns)
- guns are expensive if you wish to purchase. cheapest rifle is $250 up to $600.
- BBs get stuck in the bottom of your boots.

This is another hobby i'm picking up. Now it's:
- Racing (expensive, and done once a month)
- Karting (semi-expensive, done once every other month)
- AirSoft (cheap, will do once a month).

I recommend EVERYONE try it. Well worth it. The next time we go will be either the 11th or the weekend of the 19th.
