Default Convince me

Carmax has a 2002 Yellow S2000 for $23K w/ 40K.

I'm thinking about it... it's that or:
- '06 Legacy GT (new; $33K)
- '03 CL Type-S (used; $20K-ish)

Hopefully the LGT won't lose as much value as the others. The CL-S has a lot of good features (TC, power everything, 260hp). I'm just trying to figure out what I want.

I've weeded out the following though:
- Truck... any kind.
- SUVs... pointless
- EVO/WRX/STi... they have this boy-racer image i'd really not like...plus they'll burn thru tires quite fast (burn one, replace all four).
- any american car, except the 300's

Is there any problems with the S2000?

Yeah, it's $2,000 too much.

Also, you're deluded if you think a brand new car is not going to lose value faster than any used car. Depreciation on new cars is a killer. Not sure how you can compare either a CL-S or a Legacy to an S2K either

Legacy GT 4 door sedan
CL-S 2 door coupe
S2K roadster

Hoping a car won't depreciate quickly is like hoping you won't fart loud in a crowded bathroom. Sure, it's gonna happen but trying to plan for it will probably end up in a bigger mess than you would've had if you had just let it go.

That said, I'm still a sucker for an S2000. Legacy GT is a great looking car, CL-S seems kinda played out to me.

First question, are you keeping the maximar? If so buy the S2000 dawg.

It's simple,
You have a sedan already
You have a racecar already
Now you need a fun little RWD 2 seater roadster

I'm fairly sure the s2k is the most fun. If you needed sedan/fun car then I'd get the subbie but if your keeping your sedan I really don't see a reason to get another sedan. fwiw The CL-S does nothing for me.

well, I owe more than my Maxima is worth... and it won't change until I pay it off, at which point, it might be worth $4000... arg. Stupid nissan.

The Legacy is going to hold it's value faaar longer than my Maxima. And I'm tired of the maxima. It's boring, feels drastically underpowered, etc, etc, etc.

The CL-S was the only car, aside the L-GT, that made me go "this is pretty cool". It's just the CL-S automatics are notorious for not working and the 6 spds are tough to find.

maybe i need to keep shopping... i can't seem to find a car i like. Hopefully the new Civic Si is better looking in person than in the pictures...if available today, i'd own one already...with Nav.

but, this is all just building up to the Elise purchase....

If this is all inlue of buying an Elise... then why don't you just live with the maxima for a while longer and then buy an Elise?

why get your self in to more debt buying a car that's going to get replaced by the car you really want?

As you said, the CL-S autos don't work too well. My brothers girlfriend has a CL-S, and it has already needed a new trans. And that is from normal, speed limit driving. The car is big and bulky. You will find that the side view mirrors are gigantic and you can't see past them.

You should be able to talk the LGT down quite a bit if you really work the dealership.
