speedjunkie-ap1, what makes you think reckless driving in a parking lot isn't illegal?
The fact that it is not, you can only be asked to leave by the owners and or property mangers in person or via security at which point you politely leave.

@Driven you're right, I shouldn't have assumed your OP was condescending

..cuz we can all afford track time...
^ Not me, I've never had any privilage/money of going to any track days. Lucky/fortunate to those who does.

-> In my book, I'm ghetto. I usually do it on a very vacant parking lot or an abandoned street. But lately tires are expensive so I don't do it anymore.

I went by some warehouses by my house once when it rained but I don't stick around too long. And track events can be expensive for some poeple.

All you have to do is stay clear of the law abiding net nannys on here, and youll be OK.
Anytime anyone wants to have fun in their S, the bozos come out and suggest.."everyone go to the track now".....
I mean.... really?

If you want to go out and have "fun" then go find a parking lot and let loose till the cops get there or whatever. If you really want to LEARN go to the track or if you can't afford it an autocross or drift event is another great substitute to learn how to drive. I can promise you that a proper instructor from one of those events will be able to teach you significantly more than you can ever teach yourself alone.

You know better. They do NOT suggest drifiting, or controlled slides at ANY track event.
"yeah sure kid, go out there and turn our track day into a drift event, slide it up, fukk it, slide off track, we dont mind cleaning up rocks all over the track"
uhhh.. NOT.
And you of all people know better karim.

And at the cone dodger events, your trying to get your best time around the track, you arent there to practice sliding.

Yes the instructors can teach you a ton about what to do for these events, they do NOT teach you how to slide in the rain, and at varying speeds.
Best bet for any one person to be fully versed in THEIR car with THEIR setup IN the rain, is to go practice where they wont hurt anyone.
Better to know what the cars gonna do, than be all cocky and say " ha! i go to the track, im an awesome driver"
Whens the last time the track simulated a soaked slick ass downtown intersection..... thats right.. NEVER.
You can tout the track all you want, its not gonna teach what these guys are looking to learn.
AP1s especially, just give out in the rain and off you go backwards. So to anyone looking to learn this stuff, your gonna need to practice when it rains here which is almost never. Lately, its been raining nonstop so now is the best time to practice.

I do know better, thats why I recommended drift events too http://www.vegasdrift.com/ will let you slide to your hearts content with no problems and the autocross events have also become much more drift friendly as long as you're not too crazy and look like you're going to kill someone. In fact both Rudy and I have been giving free drift rides at quite a few autocross events over the last year not caring about our times, just letting new people ride along so they can enjoy the sport. I know SCCA runs rain or shine so you can get wet seat time and I wouldn't' be surprised if VD would run in slightly wet conditions too.

and you are right that none of those places will teach you about sliding around in a slick downtown street but neither will an empty lot in the rain. A wet oil covered las vegas street is it's own beast

I can tell you Kam, Rudy, JP, and I have all been on wet tracks. It's a humbling experience and you'll learn more about you're car than you can ever imagine. There are so many things you learn on the racetrack or we can teach you in a racing school you can apply to street driving and become a safer driver with.

and lastly I'll also plug a program called street survival, it's $75 and we let you use your car and we do simulate a wet conditions on a skidpad, emergency lane change, and braking drills so you can learn how to control your car in those situations. For our local events we are working on getting the age restriction lifted so we can help even more drivers, http://www.streetsurvival.org/
