I just returned from your city after a one week stay. Before I went out, I thought about posting here to see what there is to see and do, but after seeing so many posts asking the same question, I just read what you guys had said to the other posters.
Here are a few things I learned about Las Vegas. These are not complaints. I just have a negative tone in my writing--so I have been told.
1. It is as hot as satans sack there. Do not let anyone tell you "It's a dry heat." This is a ploy, a ruse, a joke played on the tourists to have them ill prepared for the sauna from hell that awaits. I saw a man actually melt into the sidewalk while I was there.
2. Everything is far away. "Look, there is the Luxor! You can see it from the MGM Grand. Lets walk there! Oooh ooh, there is 'The Hotel' right behind it, I hear MIX is a happening club, we'll just walk there afterwards." Yeah, we walked it. And took a cab back. Public transportation exists, but it has its own quirks. How can they say that being dropped off in the back of the casino (monorail) is a plus?
3. Everything from the cracks in the sidewalk to the clouds in the sky are a. designed to take your money and b. paid for by those that came before you and had their money taken.
4. The Grand Canyon is not close. The west coast has a different opinion of "close". East coast close=3 hours max. West coast, well, have you seen how big the states are out there? 5 hours is not close.
5. Timeshares are the devil.
6. Now this is just a guess, but if you pay $35 for a "special" girl, you will get a girl worth $35 bucks. Or one worth $200 bucks that wants $200 and is pissed you only have $35. Again, this is just a guess, but I did study marketing for 5 years, so until proven otherwise...And why are all the guys who hand out the cards on the same corner?
7. Speaking of marketing, the more demand their is for an attraction, the higher the prices and the longer the lines will be. Las Vegas is no different than anywhere else in the world in this aspect.
8. Have an idea how long it should take a cab to get places. Cabbies are out there to make money. But my first ride to the airport rent-a-car place took 25 minutes. I drove back later in the week and it took me 10. I think the rent-a-car place did not move in three days.
9. Nothing is free. There are no free tickets or comps. If you walk through the casino and see a quarter on the floor, look around and make sure some guy in a suit is not waiting around the corner to ambush you for your time and or money.
10. Outside of Vegas is the desert. Especially traveling north, if you drive somewhere, do not plan on being entertained by the scenery for an hour or two outside of Vegas.
Vegas is a very cool place to visit. I will see it again in the future. Keep your eyes open, follow a few rules, pace yourself and have a budget.
Again, I had a good time out there, and do not take offense to my off handed humor. I am sure there are about 15 things you could write about Baltimore if you came out here to visit.

I'm going to have to take issue with this statement. Of course if you never left the concrete super-slab then I'm not surprised
I was in Vegas last week, on my annual trip to the Southwest. I must admit, I am pretty immune to the stereotypical viewpoint that most Brits have of the place. I was with another S2Ki friend and his wife, both from the UK, and he hated it. I don't mind it at all. I guess I know what to expect and there was also the fact that I won $600! I stayed at the Stratosphere, which had possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The one thing that lets Vegas down (in my opinion) is the litter in the streets (particularly on the strip). Other than that, it's a good location for the type of things I like to do (get lost in the desert, mostly!). It's kind of nice to see somewhere putting two fingers up to the current economic climate and all the political crap that's going on in the world. More please....

Flip - I really should post before I go places
Who were you out there with?? I was with Jozza66 (came to Arran last year with Stooky Dawn??) Left last wed.
there are a lot of things to do, but most are on the strip itself, like shows, MMA/boxing fights, titty bar, spa, night clubs ,etc. away from the strip, you have Mt. charleston, Lake mead, Grand Canyon west(it's a little over 2 hours away)
If you like desert activities, you can go dirt bike riding, dune buggy, etc, etc... I've been on the dune buggy which i thought was badASS!
