Thumbs up Need tires for track

Hey i am planning on attending the autocross event but i really dont want to run on my good tires and rims. I was wandering if someone knows where a junk yard or salvage yard is so maybe i can just pick up some beater tires to kill. thanks for any reply.

You dun't want to put mix-match tires on this car. At least if they came off an S2K, due to antilock brakes, that would rule out flat spots. But still, I would prefer new rubber in quantities of two or four.

The problem with used tires on a car like this, unless you find two or four tires that came off the same car, your looking at mis-match in terms of overall wear and wear characteristics (from one tire to another) as well as hardening from age and or heat cycling. If the car that the tires came off didn't have antilock brake, if you drive like a maniac like me, then they will probably have flat spots on them.

A used tire that is out of round will cause vibrations on this car whether it is balanced or not.

Racer It's for his civic but I do agree with you said

Joe your current tires on your car will work fine. Your not drifting and since it's your first autocross you probably won't be going fast enough to destroy a set of tires. As long as your street tires have some tread and hold air they should be good to pass tech so you won't have a problem with that either. Your going to want to bump them up a few PSI to keep them from rolling over onto the sidewalls but we'll talk about all that on Wed at dinner.
This is your first autocross don't worry about the parts on the car. Concentrate on learning the line and having a good time and you'll do fine

If you end up enjoying it then you can look into getting a set of go fast tires

Ya, Dont worry too much about it yet... and remember, We can still trade cars for a few runs if you want. I'd like to see how a relitivly stock Civic handles...as mine was never stock.
