We put in central air about 13 years ago. Having forced hot air for heat, made it less expensive than it would be for some.

One of our better home improvements.

We had window ACs before that which were fine, but you'd come out of your nice comfortable bedroom and take a shower, only to get out of the shower and start to sweat.

I don't like the house freezing cold, but removing the humidity makes all the difference.

I would love to have central air!!!!

Funny thing is that even with central air, I would have to still run a small fan at night for the noise. ever since sleeping on a noisy ship, I can't sleep in dead silence anymore. I even have to run the damned fan in the winter.

Jeff, your far from alone there. We run a fan for the white noise year round- funny thing I always used a fan and when I met my wife- found that she too always used one! Perfect match!

I do miss the white noise of the window AC. Took me while to get used to not having it.

Im the opposite of you guys with the white noise thing. Being deaf I dont hear a lot and when I do hear something constant while trying to sleep it drives me nuts! I dont hear the little things like water drip, clocks tick or the motor in the fridge etc. Suffice to say I dont sleep well with noise.

Since I have allergies (dust mites in particular) I have one of those HEPA air filter/fan thingies. It provides good white noise all year 'round, and keeps the dust to a minimum.

I like white noise because I have some tinnitus in my ears... but mainly it's because I'm in a condo. While I could sleep just fine without it, any noises from neighbors or cars tend to wake me up easier. Probably still have the same issue even if we didn't have a condo.

On another note, we found out this weekend that the A/C in the wife's car does not work. It looks like its days are numbered.

That's another benefit of the noise for me. Not only is it calming, but it makes the ringing less noticeable.
