Default Air Box Cover

Does anyone know if taking the cover off the airbox is bad for the engine? I took the cover off while at the Drag Strip and noticed a slight decrease in my 1/4 run time and a distinct change in the engine sound...sounds great all the way up to VTEC and then I get kind of a raspy sound...

yeah opening the air box cover your letting the filter suck in hot air from the engine bay. So yeah keep the airbox cover on. i'm sure the sound is great but very pointless. i'm going to try to go up to NED tonight, we'll see.

it's ok to run without the airbox cover if you like the sound - heat soak is only an issue if you are in stop & go traffic

there was a good discussion on this a few months back with actual dyno results from Giles (who i think is a wizard when it comes to this stuff)

and

second page shows dyno plots

Testing was done on my car

Biggest thing is I had a Veilside Hood to vent the heat out off .
