Default airline safety

and no I'm not flying right now. thanks god.

ok so American has canceled around a 1000 flights by grounding their MD80 fleet for safety checks.
Alaskan air is about to ground a bunch.
Southwest got fined 10 million and grounded a bunch of their planes to do safety checks.

The airlines are positing this as the FAA is just gone over the top and their is no risk.

I smells a rat.
as an engineer, I know they don't make changes becuase their sitting around looking for something to do.

I suspect the FAA left the airlines alone to do the right thing and trusted that they would keep up with maintainence.
Somebody at FAA finally got around to checking records and lo and behold, they hadn't done jacksh^&.

really make me wonder if I want to fly very much. especially on AA.

Trust me the stink on this is only starting.

I've never had sufficient motivation to get on an air plane. It has never been because I thought, "I'm not ever going to fly", I think planes are awesome, second only to space vehicles but I've never gone anywhere further than VA and IN where I could drive to.

I would definitely fly if the destination was sufficiently cool but with all the things I am reading about the airlines these days and of course after 9-11, I am a bit leery... I'm thinking I will probably need a valium and/or a couple shots of whiskey before take off

For those of us who fly from time to time, or more than that, because OF OUR JOBS, this kind of news is just terrible. Dying on a plane traveling to Japan for a vacation of a life time is way different than dying on a plane to Tennessee to check out a printer...

If I have somewhere to go, and a plane is the best way to get there, I'm on it. I don't worry about it either, when your number is up, it's up.

I don't like the PIA that flying has become. Can't bring this or that, take off your shoes, the whole bit. Then you often get to sit on the runway for hours past your departure time....there's a whole lot of fun for ya!

There is not much glamor left to flying these days. Someone told me recently that his idea of a good vacation does NOT begin or end in an airport!

With all the extra time you need to spend at the airport, the few non stop flights and all the hassles, we might now drive to destinations that we would have flown to in the past.

Nope never I would given the chance but so far it's been cheaper to drive to the places I have been to. With gas prices rising it might be cheaper to fly to Indy but it is so much cooler to drive the S there

And yes if I had the chance again (and the money someday) to head to Japan to see the Honda Hall of Dreams - I am SO on a plane for that! I would love to see the #11 F1 car in person and

I like flying; it's all the waiting I dislike.

NEWS FLASH....Ellen does not qualify for mile high club......

having probably put 150K-200K miles in over the last few years, I hate flying.
It's not about safety or falling out the sky.
Lainey is right. it has just gotten to be such a PITA. ( even without the special handling and body cavity searches)

think of a bus with wings and you start to get the right idea.
unless your on Net Jets, there is almost nothing glamorous about air travel anymore.

oh and if your size is in that third standard deviation of the human population it gets even better. fuhgedaboutit, you just don't fit.
