Any fast lane users here?
I am considering getting a fast lane transponder for the S. I think it will come in handy on long trips. I am just wondering the following and wanted to make sure I understand everything correctly from their website:
1) fast lane boxes work on the EZ pass system in NJ, NY, MD, PA and VA.
2) I pay about $30 upfront for a box plus whatever I want to put on the account to start with for use at tolls.
3) there is no monthly fee or other charge if I am not using it.
4) I cannot take it out of my car and use it when traveling in someone else's car
If I am wrong on any of these, please let me know. Also, any comments/suggestions on these things? Glenn, didn't you say something about getting one from NJ instead because it was cheaper or something?

works in NH at the hampton tolls...and yes to all points. You can link it to a credit card or bank account. Once you use up what is in your FastLane account to start, it will just pull out that same amound from cc or bank acount again...and again...etc. I use it in both my cars even though I only list the audi with FastPass. I suppose if they check the plates on the S they will know it's my car. It's well worth it with nothing to lose.
You can get an EZ-Pass which works fine on Fast Lane and there is no upfront fee like Fast Lane.
You can register a Fast Lane or EZ Pass with multiple cars so they are fine to use. Its technically against the rules to use it in another car not on the account but it makes no difference unless it doesnt read when you pass through...

So if I order a box from a EZ pass state like NJ, I have no upfront fee? Which states allow you to order from MA?
I got mine from EZPASS NY
NJ charges a 1.00 statement fee.
Sign up with your credit card and no deposit for the transponders.

Here is the tip....when it asks for your state....pick New York, otheriwse it will direct you to your state specific site....
Just ordered an EZ pass through New York using your method Cubby. Total up front cost was $25 and that all goes toward tolls. Why anyone would buy a fast lane box through Mass turnpike is beyond me if NY is giving them away.

I have Fastlane and have been using 'em for years. I had one in my Accord for the longest time and recently added another transponder to my account for the S2000. Both transponders pull from the same account. The upfront fee of $25 dollars you put up is just for the transponder. When and if you ever return it, you get it back, if I remember correctly, so technically the MA transponders are free. And yes, to all of your questions. Congrats for getting one, Fastlane is one of those things you do and never go back...before, I had to fiddle with coins all the time and wait in long lines...now it is so much easier.
I finally broke down and got one two months ago for work now that I'm traveling. I have to admit it's ' a good thing" as Martha would say.
my wifes car does not like the fastlane transponder. It has a coating in the windshield which blocks the RF. does the same to radar detectors. pain in the A--. there is a special cutout but it is the middle of the passenger side windshield. so instead I just hold it out the window going through the booth.
I'm sure it looks retarded but ah WTF that never stopped me before.
