I assume Bill hasn't knocked that thing out yet. It looks pretty simple. I could do it but I'm kinda far away from Bass.

Just a suggestion, if you are going to stain it and leave the wood grain showing, use a hard wood. If you plan on painting it anyway, make it out of MDF. It's more stable than wood, takes paint well, has no voids and is less expensive.

Good luck. Looks like a fun project.

I can't see how the item in the drawing will fit.

Will the piece be intalled in front of the brick or to either side.

If to either side, the two base legs have casing at the bottom that would require changes from the drawing.

In either scenerio the bricks are built out at the top of the fireplace and would not accomodate that design.

the sides will be installed on either side of the bricks on the drywall and then i guess that the top would extend past the top bricks BUT i think Bill may have found a better solution

The scene went something like this:

Bill and Steve meet at Home Depot to mantle shop.

Bill: "Steve what were you looking at?"

Steve: "Right down this aisle, Bill."

Bill: "What are the measurements of the fireplace.?"

Steve: Searches through pockets. "DUH" I know I wrote them down. Heck, I even posted them on line." What did I do with that paper?"

Bill: Thinking, "Try to help this guy." "What a "

Steve: "Wait I minute. I know someone who's ALWAYS on line. Let's call Lainey."

As it turns out, Lainey was NOT on line at that very moment, she was busy getting ready to leave town.....but for an S2K buddy, she stops what she's doing and finds the measurements.

Glad I could help, Steve.
