Default ARRGH!

So as some may have gathered from my previous post, it seems like my timing chain tensioner is acting up. At first I was annoyed 'til I realized it was an easy fix and not something that would lead to catastrophic failure if I didn't change it ASAP. So I ordered the part on Monday, planning to change it this coming weekend.

So last night, I drove the S2000 after it sat for 10 days. As I'm cruising a long, I notice after a mile or two that the clutch engagement point keeps getting lower and lower. On the way home, that trend continued... making as few shifts as possible so I could get home. I gather that I'm losing clutch fluid from somewhere, and it's leaking pretty fast. So now my S2000 is stuck in my condo parking lot, and I don't know how far I can even drive it for fear of getting stuck somewhere.

So now I've got that to fix, and I'm really not supposed to do fluid work in my condo parking lot, but I can't drive the car, either.

To top it all off, my condo is listed for sale, and we have a purchase agreement on another house... so I'm crazy busy trying to keep our place spic'n'span and get ready for moving in a short time span. And the +1 is 6.5 months preggers, so she can't really help out all that much with boxes.

This just couldn't happen at a worse time!!!

So... who has advice for my clutch issue? I haven't even checked the fluid (since I got home at 11:30 last night) so I don't know what the deal is. Anything would be helpful.

Sorry about the clutch issue. I have one too and I'm taking her into the garage tomorrow. I did some research and talked to my favorite motor head in the office and I'm hoping it's a leak in the master cylinder and not a new clutch. It started with difficulty getting into reverse to back out of the garage. The clutch started catching really low and now I'm having trouble pretty much with every gear.

I don't drive her hard and have driven standards a lot in the past so I don't think it's abuse. I'll certainly know by this time tomorrow what's up.

Good luck with yours.

Thanks, you too.

From searching various internet pages, the clutch master/slave cylinder issues aren't new. It seems to be why people advocate frequent clutch fluid changes in the S2000 regardless of driving style.

I don't drive hard, either, and this happened very quickly yesterday. It was fine when leaving the driveway, but the engagement got lower and lower as I drove along. So something gave out. I just don't have a shop around here that I trust for the S2000. Nor the time to take it there, really.

the clutch itself won't be where you loose the fluid.
It's either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder.
I don't know which is easier on an S2000.

Mike,
Smile and relax, remember it can always get worse.
but, this too shall pass.
4 months from now your focus will be on very different fluids leaking

Yeah, I know it can get worse... I'm just sittin' at work thinking about problems I can't solve while I'm here. It irritates me.

Good luck with the issues, Mike.

Connie your clutch too? I guess we've been lucky so far....

Well you only have the Master , Line and slave to check . Other than that you have to pull the tranny if it is clutch related .

I tell anyone if the master of the slave is bad to swap both as the metal from wear that turns the fluid black wears both and you will be replacing the other shortly . So do the job once . I recomend changing the rubber line to the slave as well .

Would love to help you but it would require you towing it up here. If you have any questions though feel free to call the shop
