Default Audi A4 as a beater?

As some might know I used to have a totally beat Toyota Corolla 1994 that I would cruise around in during the winter. Well one of 80+ year old neighbors decided to plow in to it one day. Most likely because she didn't want to let other car go by since streets are so narrow.

Good News? That was the day I didn't park my S2000 there, I use Corolla as a spot saver since it's one of the best spots. That day I didn't park my s2000 there because I was to lazy to move the Corolla.

Bad News? The corolla is totalled.

I am looking at vehicles any where from $2000 to $3000 and the Audi A4 looks very lucrative. I am just not so sure about those vehicles having 150k miles plus. Am I better off getting another corolla or A4 isn't all that bad?

I would venture to say the toyota would be more reliable with the higher milage. If the audi breaks its gonna be a lot more $ to get it back running.

I have an Audi, its a money pit. I spent a trillion with this stupid over
engineered Audi.
I will never, ever ever buy any European cars for daily beater.

Stay with Toyota or Honda you can't beat it.
Don't tell me I didn't warn you about Audi. You will spend so much money in the suspension. Audi is good from 0 miles to 40,000 miles. After that, you better hold your pants.

Newer Audis are much improved over the past models but I'd be leary of one with 150k.

Yeah, like the 16 ball joints!

Yeah! the upper and lower ball joint links are individual...over engineered.

In traditional way, you have lower/upper A arms...that's it.
This sucker has 6 or 7 individual alum
links or rods, cost $110. each. When one goes, expect the next 6 to go.
Really stupid design.

Wow... I didn't know that about Audi.

How about VW, are they their suspension the same way?
