Batten down the hatches
Some have compared it to the so-called Perfect Storm that struck off the coast of New England in 1991, but Cisco said that one didn't hit as populated an area and is not comparable to what the East Coast may be facing. Nor is it like last year's Halloween storm, which was merely an early snowstorm in the Northeast.
This has much more mess potential because it is a combination of different storm types that could produce a real whopper of weather problems, meteorologists say.
"The Perfect Storm only did $200 million of damage and I'm thinking a billion," said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the private service Weather Underground. "Yeah, it will be worse."
Storm
Maybe it's only media hype, but if you have any stuff around the yard that isn't tied down, you might want to do a little prep this weekend. Do it on Saturday though, not Sunday, as Sunday is cars and football at Bill's.

it's FRANKENSTORM dun da dah!!
I do have to admit I'm getting rather tired of these early season storms.
Time to make sure I have gas and oil for the chainsaw.
I have to go through the mental anguish 'the generator decision" yet again.

Will be "borrowing" the 5 gallon gas can from my parents. Firing up the generator for a test run again. Same goes for the Chain Saw.
Oh and ZOMG that was an AWESOME VIDEO. That made my morning.

My brother in law in SC is already on alert for catastrophe duty (semi retired insurance adjuster). Mostly he can work from home, however last year he spent almost three months in NY after the floods in the late summer early fall.
don’t really understand your logic -
a generator is like any other tool. a tool is great thing to have when you need it and when you don’t it doesn’t eat anything
if memory serves, you lost power for about a week during one of the last major ice storms..
I now have two generators a 2500 watt Honda and a 3500 cheap one from home depot – fortunately I’ve never needed to use them at my home BUT I’ve had friends lose power for days on end and borrow them..
Either way – I like tools, I like to be prepared and I like knowing I can keep my two girls warm, comfortable, safe and entertained in the event of a sustained power outage
Got ten gallons of gas (thanks to bill for the cans), two generators, three chain saws, and enough fire wood to keep my house warm for two years
Just buy one and don’t look back

and you can't run that much load by backfeeding the dryer outlet.
Dropping 4-5K after the wiring changes needed makes it a much harder choice.
