Default Black Ice strikes!

So I was in a single car accident this morning around 4am on Rt2 in my Xterra. Caught me out because I wasn't even ready for it and I was barely accelerating off the on ramp on to the bridge. Hit the bridge steps out to the left, correct it's coming back in line, front hooks up hard and the tail swings 90 to the right and I am not 8ft from the Left lane guardrail straight on at around 45mph, not enough time or distance for a correction attempt, jerk the wheel left to try and bring the front around to hit the passenger corner. WHAM! WHAM! No airbag deployment and it moved under it's own power. Moved to the side of the road and checked it out and looked to be all body. My shoulder is a bit sore and left shin's got a mark. Went down an exit to the local PD, let them know, they were going to contact the SP to see if it the road can be treated, and headed home.

Daylight came and this is what I was greeted with...

Be careful on the roads everyone never know when the cold is going to strike!

Hope your ok after that! Like I say all the time this is the time of year where if your driving an S it gets hairy more hairy than a regular car. Sadly as evidenced by Scott's mishap this morning the roads are unpredictable and they will snap out on you with no notice. Trust me I know Ive done 110k with mine and they snap out I dont care how good your tires or driving skills. Drive safe all.

pretty tough to do 110k miles on the car when you bought it used with 50k

and yes the rears of the s2k always just snap out - all the time no matter what tires you have or your skill set or the weather

it's a death trap

i've driven both an ap1 and ap2 in the winter - both are fine if you don't drive like an idiot - heck i drove my 01 in two inches of snow with S02s from Boston to Franklin not fun but i did it and the rear never snapped out

what reference

your mysterious 110k miles that you put on even though we all know you bought the car used -

or the fact that the s2000 can be driven in the snow / ice as long as one knows the conditions and one does not drive like a inexperienced driver guess your ignore doesn’t work anymore

You both supposed to be ignoring each other so you are both at fault .

Steve you quoted Dave , and Dave you quoted Steve both post neither of you should have seen either way .

what i find funny is all these these dire warnings - any car can lose traction on black ice but to say the S loses it's rear more than any other car is unfounded (like when you lost yours scott )

also we all know some still tend to run to “mommy and daddy with the report to mod button” over every little post i make just like before (the joke mark thread and others) but we should not let others post untruths on the board ie I drove my car for a million miles etc etc when it is simply not true

but i agree with you scott

Scott, in MA single vehicle accidents are automatically subject to surcharge, but when weather is truly a factor, you can fight it, AND win. My daughter in law had a single vehicle accident on New Year's Day, early in the AM after a bad freeze and she won.

It sometimes helps to get a newspaper with date showing, and mention of black ice incidents. If it happened to you, it likely happened to others.

It's worth a shot! If you get a surcharge, ask for a hearing. You can no longer appeal by mail, you or an attorney representing you will have to appear.
