Boston Marathon.
As I posted over in vintage.
This is a tragedy for the many direct victims who've lost their lives and limbs along with many others who have been injured as well as their loving families.
a variety of thoughts and emotions are coming to the fore.
The first is denial. This is Boston. Despite the reputation of our drivers, it's one of the friendliest cities in the world.
It's home. It's a world class city of education and embraces diversity and open diverse thought. Why here?
The marathon is this incredible world event which welcomes runners from around the world.
I suppose if you sought attention, because of the marathon, there certainly was no shortage of cameras.
On the plus side, which was a huge benefit to the victims, was the location of the bomb.
Because it was at the finish line, there were literally hundreds of first responders right there, along with wheelchairs and ambulances.
Boston also has seven hospitals that are all relatively close, each and every one is a world class facility.
Most are teaching hospitals which expands the available staff as well.
My heart also goes out to the many runners who could not complete the marathon.
it surely does not rank among the loss suffered by those who were killed or injured but must be very traumatic.
For many, they will run one marathon in their life. Many have traveled huge distances to run Boston because despite all of the others, it is THE marathon.
For some, this represented the culmination of years of effort to get to this point.
This was a ticket punch on their bucket list. the experience for them has been stolen.
So now it is our turn to show the world why Boston is one of the greatest cities in the world.
But know this, outwardly we're calm. Yeah somebody smacked us in the mouth.
We'll get up. We 'll embrace the hurt, care for the injured and console the bereaved.
But inside, we're resolved and were pissed.

Hi all,
I'm a "Yankee" from NJ, but travel up to New England to visit frinds and family a few times per year. Boston is my faveorite city and get up there at least twice a year.
My GFs friend was running yesterday, we went up to support her, tried to hop sctoch on the T to see her at various places on the route but couldn't get on the T to take us to the finish line as it was too crowded. We hopped on the next one and got into the area just minutes after the bombing.
My heart goes out to all of you and hope you can all bounce back, it's a shame to that these events leave a scare on cities as great as Boston!
Hang in there, be strong and never back down or prevent these crazy people change your life!!
I'll be back soon!

We have a few NE members who work in the area. All are safe.
One Newtown CT parent recently said something like this. "These things are always in someone else's backyard, until one day they are not."
We drove through Boston on Saturday for the first time in years. I always marvel at the city, there is so much happening. It is so sad that someone decided to bring this act of terrorism to Boston, or anywhere. I feel for all the victims and their families, as well as the city itself.

My dad normally works a few blocks over from where it happened. Luckily he wasn't working yesterday. Oddly I didn't even think about it until one of my relatives from Japan sent me a message asking if he was OK.
