Default Brake fade - what to expect?

My brakes still feel mushy today. I understand that I should expect some fade, but what fixes this? I can't imagine I'd need new pads already? Fluid level is OK.

Any thoughts?

This is normal, I experienced the same thing and was very worried about it until I talked to Francis that night (right after my track event). You used your brakes hard which is good... you have left a coating on the rotors and it will go away after a few days of driving.

As I said, I too was worried, but it will go away soon. The more you drive your car, the faster it will get back to normal

Ahhhh... That explains it. Thanks! Now I just need to concentrate on not rear-ending anyone.

So what do you do about, say, Watkins Glen, when we'll be racing 2 days in a row? Won't that affect the brakes adversely on day 2?

You may have to bleed your brakes....just bring along a can of fluid in case. Oh, by the way, do not apply your e-brakes after your runs...leave the car in gear or use blocks....dont want to warp your rotors....you probably already know that though.

I did use the chocks, thanks!! By "bleeding" the brakes, what would that accomplish? Has the viscocity been affected, or something like that? I just put in SuperBlue on Sunday, under the supervision of Glenn and Tom.

I still have the factory fluid in my car but I seem to remember Glenn, Francis and a few others noting that superblue won't boil but it does compress more than the factory fluid and can be very disconcerting.

Frankly, I HATE the way the SuperBlue feels. Yes, I'm certainly more used to it after a day or two of driving, but I loved the instant braking action of the stock fluid. You get that tight feel back if you pump, release, then hit the pedal again, but if you release for more than a few seconds, everything equalizes out and it goes soft again. Is there any adjustment we can tweak to keep the system in a slightly higher compressed state?

I dislike it so much, I'm considering going back to stock fluid come next tech session (and yes, Tom, I'll have speed bleeders next time ).

I changed over to ATE SuperBlue and Porterfield R4S pads prior to Watkins Glen last July. I have not had had a mushy pedal and have not had to do a brake bleed. My pedal feels ever bit "there" as it did with stock fluid. In fact, I like the R4S pads so much, I am have been running them on the street since then. I probably could use a fluid change soon.

I did install the speed bleeders and they are pretty cool.

John,

I've heard horror stories about the calipers cracking cuz the pads can generate/take more heat. can anyone respond to that?
