Nah, it was more of a:

On a happier - yet somewhat unexplainable note, my car is acting better now. I re-adjusted (loosened) my throttle cable...which, unless I completely am misunderstanding, should have no connection with the TPS... (I had tightened it about 3 weeks ago). Anyone care to take a guess here?

Your throttle cable and tps are connected in a way.

Your throttle cable is connected on one side of the throttlebody and your TPS sensor is on the exact oppisotte side .The two are connected together by the throttle shaft that holds the throttle plate in side the throttlebody.

1. By tightening the cable you changed the value of the TPS at idle and the ECU remapped itself to compensate .

2. You tightened the cable just enough that the throttle plate opened a tiny bit ,but the TPS didn't pick it up and the ecu read it as a vacuum leak .

both just guesses without checking the car myself with a volt meter to read the TPS

Thats my guess what do I win

Scott/Mas - thanks guys! I took the car on a 260 mile ride yesterday to verify that the problem is gone...not a single hint of a problem. Looks like that was the issue - I was over-zealous with my tightening...

On a sad note, the car is now for sale - anyone interested?

That's what happened. Your throttle plate was stuck open slightly. The deflection in the throttle cable is important.

That's VERY true! I may be crazy; however it seems that I have additional horsepower now... although that might just be from all the cleaning, checking, etc. that I did to track down this problem.
