darwin is rolling in his damned grave
I am not saying it would not break my heart. And, I have stated that I would do everything in my power to help them. But, I will not be an enabler. Tough love is sometimes needed. There are also those unfortunate people who cannot be helped. There would be no purpose to allow one of my kids to pillage my home if they became an addict. It simply serves no purpose. I have seen families try everything they can, and all they get in return is crapped on in the most horrible ways. Some people don't want to be helped.
I am with Jeff on this one. If a junkie happens to be a family member, too bad... that's the path of his/her choosing. They are aware of the consequences of their voluntary action.
There are so many better causes to use that money. If the State had extra money (which they don't!), it is better spent on, say, Jimmy Fund or public school education. Say what, the State want to cut education expenses to help junkie survive overdose? Who do you think is more deserving of help, a child with cancer or some junkie. In a perfect world of unlimited resources, fine, help those undeserving mofo's. In the real world, use the limited resources to help those more deserving.

it's funny!! i wonder what you guys will say if and when this "disease" effects your family
it's very easy to dismiss people when you have NO IDEA
Ben didn't you help out a family member in the past??

Addiction is a sad sickness that is hard to kick. Yes most junkies get into it of their own free will, but they get trapped.
How can we as a society help them, other than try to get them out of it. If a drug helps just one is that not a success?
We need to feel sorry for these guys and gals as they do not ruin just their own lives as Jeff pointed out, but how? How do you help these people out of their addictions? Round em all up, put em in a cell and cold turkey all of them?
As a society we have no real solution, so we make them all criminals. There has to be a better way.

With all the methadone centers and free treatment that is paid for with our taxes to help people who pay NO taxes (most also steal from tax payers outright) we are taking a double hit. There is plenty of options for these "people" to get help. Most refuse it and continue to pillage our society. I place the word people in parenthesis because most of them are more like animals than humans. I realize most of you never see this side of society and will never be able to wrap your mind around it.
Do I feel sorry for someone who is a burden on society by choice and refuses the help that is offered them and continues to hurt innocent people on their path to self destruction? Very simply, NO!
Everyone finds it very easy to be kind hearted about these junkies until they get car jacked coming out of a grocery store by one, or their house gets broken into and robbed, or your wife is brutalized by one on a wild binge. I'll take your idea about throwing them all in a pile for cold turkey one step further by sending them all to an island and let them kill each other and rob each other instead of our families. That's my informed opinion in a nut shell.
