Default Excise taxes

Well, it's excise tax time again. Just for kicks, we compared our bills around the office today. Here's what we found:

2003 Honda S2000: valued at $3250
1999 Lexus RX300: valued at $3300
1993 Lexus SC300: valued at $3450

My S has 30K miles on it, the RX has 58K on it, and the SC has 195K on it.

Who dreams these things up?

Now keep in mind, I'm not complaining. My S tax is $81.25.

It sux. But at least it's a local tax and goes to your town. That always seemed reasonable to me.

Oh well. When I lived in RI we had excise tax and a fire tax. Like my real estate taxes weren't enough to pay for a few fire trucks.

What are you bitching about? Us CT guys pay car property taxes of $100s even $1000s depending on the car.

Its a yearly tax as long as you own it. And the yearly tax is based on the car's market value. Taxes are calculated using 70 percent of an asset's value times that jurisdiction's mill rate.

We are also known as tax you to death state. But I think you guys have us beat on the house property tax.
