Sorry, buddy. There are often speed traps on that road. It's a bad one with many accidents. That's where campbuds/Rick got into his accident when he lived in MA.

first ticket - fight it - put on a suit be nice and polite in court and explain the tow truck may have caused an accident - they should reduce / drop the fine

can't hurt

BUT maybe he'll be on vacation for your court date

they can't increase the fine when you're in court - also think about how much your insurance will go up in the next 6 years

If it's your first, I would appeal. Might get a freebe or at least a reduction by the magistrate. He wrote you for 65 ina 50, but what was your "actual" speed? They won't increase the fine, but if the trooper tells the judge you were 75 in a 50, you WILL be paying the 65MPH fine. One other thing to consider is that there is a fee charged for appeals... but it's worth the roll in my opinion.

EDIT: I just re-read the post and noticed the ammount was $125. So, did he write you for 10MPH over the limit (60 in a 50) and then give you the seatbelt fine? If so, he gave you a $50 break on the ticket.

You should wear your belt. I never did until I wrapped my S around a pole. Even at a very slow speed I got a really bad injury to my head. At any other speed I probably would have been seriously hurt. Once you get used to wearing it, you will feel strange without it.

First ticket . . .

Matt,

The fine for the ticket is really no big deal. If it was just paying $100 for speeding I would be zipping around all over the place without a care. Where they really whack you is the insurance surcharge because of the points you'll get from ticket. It takes many years for the points to go away and it will raise your insurance rates significantly.
