So my wife wanted an suv for for the family but hates the Ford Freestyle that i currently own so I decieded to change our car situation to suit both our needs. Owning two suvs was out of the question, but i needed something that i could take to work that would have flexability and be somewhat economical. She wants a ford explorer for herself, and both leases on our vehicles were coming up so we are changing both our cars. She gets the ford explorer and i got..........

Imprezza WRX
This is my first subie but i was impressed with the nature of the car durning my test drive. It was quite docile around town but the the extra tq of the 2.5L made navigating trafic and city streets much more enjoyable than in the S. The clutch is light as a feather, too light in my opinion, but the friction point is way up in the range of the pedal so it should make for quicker shifts when times demand it. The shifter itself is super notchy and the throw is long compared to the s, but i can live with it. The turbo is a bit lagggy down low but resonds well once you start to climb up in the rev range. I didn't get the STI so the suspension is softer and the car has some extra roll but it still insipired confidence as i pushed it harded through the corners. I liked the way car absorbed the bumps of the new england roads, not to harsh but firm enough to let you know that this isn't just a family wagon. From a stlying point of view I think this is the nicest looking wrx to date.
Anyway if the s is not ready for the dragon, I can always take this
My family has had a total of 8 Subaru's. Never owned one personally but the 2011 WRX looks tempting. Has the same body kit as the STI. Most car reviews seem to prefer the WRX over the STI anyway they can't seem to justify the extra $10k plus you'll spend to put yourself into an STI.
yeah i couldn't see spending the extra money on the sti. The lease on the wrx was more expensive than i thought it was going to be, but after a few back and forth battles i got the price down. I wasn't even looking at the sti but the salesman told me that for a lease they were over $600 a month and they were asking for 3k down. Thats crazy! Def makes sense to buy a wrx and with a few supension mods and a retune you are better off. Im not a bench number person but supposedly the 2011 sti is only as fast as the 2011 wrx anyway
I love my little scooby doo, getting ready to turn 63k and hasn't had a single problem. My only complaint is it's going to cost me 900 bucks to replace the brakes on all four corners and I'm really milking the distance before I have to plunk down the money. Other than that, she feels solid and secure. And in the snow, absolutely no worries. I'll just keep driving her a couple more years and probably trade up to a rex myself when I hit 100k. Hoping that the next gen looks something like this.
Nice I think a wrx is one of the top winter New England cars out there and the cost doesn't hurt either. You were right to stay with the wrx. I wouldn't be able to justify the cost difference and from what I've heard, the wrx is actually underrated on HP.
