Default gonna let her go

so over this weekend, in addition to the standard issues that my passat has, the moaning and groaning of it got really pronounced. i can hear it when i turn the wheels and just going straight. i think i'm gonna get it checked out but i love to go car hunting. so this is what i'm looking for

No more than 20K - seating for 5 - highway MPG of at least 30mpg - new or CPO

2010 - Kia Soul - 16K - 10year/100K warranty
Pro - brand new - sales tax/excise tax deductible
Con - smaller than my Passat

2006 - VW Passat 2.0T - $16K CPO, 20K miles - warranty till 2013 or 74K miles
Pro - almost the same size as my Passat
Con - used so no sales tax deduction

Any other suggestions?

One issue with the Soul...isn't this the first model year of that vehicle?
I tend to stay away from the first year of production for a car because
typically they are still working out the bugs. Just my $0.02.

yes, it's a first year. i'll probably take a look at it tomm. sometime for a test drive and check out the soul forums to see what the owners have to say about it.

I would stay away from another Vdub.

How about Honda fit?

Get a base model and mod it!

What about a civic? Bit more room than the fit and everyone knows you will never EVA have any issues with it.

fit is WAAAY to small. occasionally I have to drive my sister and her kids to NY for a weekend trip so I need a car that can transport 3 pieces of carryon luggage.

as far as VDUB's goes, as long as they come with a good warranty, I don't care. My '99 has been good to me for 10 years 174K miles.

Get a newer Infiniti G20. They are a decent size, they run forever, you don't need to worry about ever replacing a timing belt on one, and people see the badge and assume it's a much nicer car than it actually is.
