I need to drive an AP2 for comparison. I had my heart set on an AP1 and bought one. I like the styling better, the more raw nature of the car etc. My daily driver is an Audi 1.8 liter with a Garret GT28RS turbo and the two cars couldn't be any more different. All in all I think the AP1 has a nice powerband for daily driving. The tq is always there even at low RPMs. Granted my Audi is heavy, all wheel drive, and has a lower CR motor and a larger than factory turbo. So the low end there isn't quite the low end of the S.

I drove an 02' with about 30k on it and a brand new 05' before I settled on my 04' that at the time was a bargain. The differences between the Ap1 and AP2 that I noticed was the midrange was a little beefier with the AP2.

But were only talking what 8 lb/ft of torque difference between them? To be honest, I would've been equally satisfied with either...

my guess is that it's easier to feel the difference in the AP1 vs AP2 gearing over the motor characteristics.
