Excellent reply. I thought it strange.

Now, next year, when you put your baby into a costume, be sure to tell folks the candy you receive is for him and not you.
I think that's implied with an infant.... it falls into the "mooching leftovers" corollary above. (Even if it's all leftovers) But I have no problems making such a statement for those to whom it is not obvious. I will not be holding my own bag.

And where do you stand on teen trick or treaters? And what about those with no costumes?

I had three young neighborhood kids show up without costumes. I asked where their costumes were and they said they were gansta's. (Is that the correct spelling?)

Eh, the no costume thing bothers me more than the teenage thing. Some places say 14 is too old, I'm not even all that opposed to people up to 16. But if you're driving, you're too old. If you're not driving, you probably don't have anything better to do, so you might as well go get candy.

But they should have to make a good faith effort for the costume. As the candy-giver, though, that's a risky proposition, as there's always a veiled threat of vandalism if you deny 'em candy. You gotta make a judgment call on that.

The other problem I have is that I'm a poor judge of age, especially when people are in costume. Could just be a 15yo, could just be a husky kid... no idea.

Speaking of driving, what's up with parents following their kids around in their CAR? I saw this a number of times. Kid comes to my door unaccompanied and there's a parent is watching them in an idling car. Now I can understand if the houses were far apart, but I live in 1/4 mi loop of townhouse style condos. Walk with your kids ya bums.

I only had a few that didn't look dressed up in which case I say "What are you supposed to be?" If they can give me a response that makes sense I'll give'em candy. I also got a "gangsta" last night. I'm pretty sure that kid will probably go to school in the same clothes on Monday. I also keep a package of ramen nearby for the kid who are witty enough to try and say "College Student". Haven't been able to use it yet though.

We had a few of those too, Kenta. I think they were cold.

The best costume I saw was some kid, prolly a 12yo guy, wearing a prison striped jumpsuit, carrying a sign that said "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."
Pics would have been awesome!
