Default Hardtops

Hello everyone,

I don't post on here too much but I am looking for a bit of hardtop advice. I really want to quiet down my S a bit for my highway commute in the winter and I understand a top would help with general wind and traffic noise.

I am considering a Forbidden USA carbon fiber OEM replica top...does anyone have any experience with the quality or fitment? I have heard good and bad things.

OR

If anyone knows of someone selling an OEM Black or Silverstone one please let me know! This would be my preferred option. I'm in the Danbury CT area it willing to travel a few hrs.

Thanks!

OEM Hardtop will quiet down wind noise but increase exhaust and engine noise. I can't imagine the replica with no insulation/padding/liner being very good at hiding noise.

I hope someone with a top can chime in. I think JBird007 has a Forbidden top.

Yep, I have a forbidden top. I love it. Did cut down on noise a little, deffinitely blocks more than the soft top but not by much. I also waited about 10 weeks for mine, but I suppose they were busy then, they might be putting them out faster now or have some in stock. The fitment is good, hardware is ok, for the price you cant really beat it

Glad to hear they fit well. I'll probably end up going aftermarket simply because of ease and price. Hopefully it would be quicker thN 10 weeks though. Its not easy finding an OEM that someone is wiling to part with.

Have you ever thought of getting a custom Headliner? I would probably get the single sided carbon fiber and dynamat it and cover in fabric of some sort and probably still do it cheaper than OEM I think.

that's funny just the other day I was thinking about doing a custom headliner in it. Theres a few spots (mainly around where the latches mount in the front) where the underside is a bit ugly. When I get some time I'm going to use a little bit of body filler, sand it all smooth and buy a yard or so of alcantara (or imitation like microsuede) and line the hardtop with it. It doesnt bother me at all but I've had a few passengers comment that the inside of the top isnt very pretty (a quick coat of flat black spraypaint even would have made it look better) but I think the alcantara liner would look pretty awesome

Pulling some info from:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/969...dtop-groupbuy/
1.Infusion FRP OEM style top MSRP $1,800-GroupBuy Price $1,400 20 Lbs
2.Infusion Single Sided CF OEM style top MSRP $2,200-GroupBuy Price $1,800 18 Lbs
3.Infusion Double Sided CF OEM style top MSRP $2,600-GroupBuy Price $2,200 16 Lbs
3.Pre-Preg Double Sided CF OEM style top MSRP $3,800-GroupBuy Price $3,300 12 Lbs

Options:
1. OEM spec paint $400 (One tone or two tone)
2. Pre-Installed rear window $75
3. Local hardtop install $80
4. Shipping 48 US States $250

-Tops will be made on order bases. First come first serve.
-Hard top prices INCLUDE aftermarket hardware.

I assume the group buy is over. So to get an FRP oem style top you're in it for:

1800 FRP top
400 Oem spec paint
75 Window install
250 Shipping
-----
$2525

I say go used OEM hardtop IF you can get it. You might pay a few hundred more (usually they are between 2800-3000), but it will have a real headliner in it and as a result probably be a bit quieter. If you're using in winter the glass will have a defroster which is a plus. And, the OEM hardware is easier to deal with when taking it on and off.

Dumb question, couldn't you use a dynamat or dynaliner to quiet things down?

although I poked about on their website but couldn't actually find any tech data on how much attenuation they provide.

I was thinking about going this route when I get my forbidden usa hardtop. I'm not sure how I can put dynamat and then a felt or leather liner over it.

I did the same research on dynamat and B-Quiet which is a bit cheaper but I don't really understand the chart on sound reduction. Anyone know how to deciper it?

I like the idea of doing an alcantara liner though. Something like this https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/750...r/page__st__75 but with dynamat underneath for a softer feel.

Having a custom liner done at a shop seems rather pricey though so I think I might have to get the sewing machine out...

Huge sale currently running on Forbidden OEM tops. Wish I wasn't dropping so much $ at the body shop right now or I'd jump on it. There's always next Black Friday
