just picked up a new linksys wireless router (i know what this does!!) and a linksys wireless access thing -

what does this wireless access thing do?

does this thing just extend the wiress signal?

and who can teach me how to set it up..

 

Yeah the access one is the extender. Do you really need it? Did you try to see how far the router goes? I guess you can put the router on one end of the house then put the WAP on the other end.

What do you have DSL or Cable? Linksys is pretty much plug and play but you might have to reset your account info from your ISP to the router.

 

What do you need help setting up...the wireless router or the extender? I'm assuming you already have a wireless router and are replacing it? Wireless card in a laptop or desktop? You may find that you don't need the extender depending upon which LInksys you got too. They should have provided a disk that will do it all for you.

 

In your house, the router should work fine without the extender. Don't forget to turn on encryption and stuff... If you still need help I can look at it when I come to the pirate party.

i do have a wireless router and it works inside the house but i got both the access point and wireless router for free so i'll be swapping to the linksys thing

I briefly stepped into the world of reflashing those things to open them up to "alternate modes of operation" actaully my brother told me what to do and where to go but between you getting stuff "free" because of the coupon forums and the uber geeks who write software that takes advantage of inexpensive hardware and post it pn the net. I wish i had more time to surf the wealth of information and just absorb.
