Default Hey Erick!

What do you know about this:

Which parameters and settings does the DSL Speed Optimizer modify?

1. TCP 1323 Extension - This parameter enables enhancements to the TCP/IP protocol that provide improved performance over high-speed connections.

2. TCP Receive Window - This parameter specifies the number of bytes a sender (the source you are downloading from) may transmit without receiving an acknowledgment.Modifying it determines the maximum size offered by the system.

3. MTU (Maximum Transmission Units) - The MTU defines the largest single unit of data that can be transmitted over your connection.

According to Verizon, I pay for the 3mbps DSL, according to a speed test, I'm getting 1.486.

I gave up talking to them, all they want to know is "do you have a filter on your phone."

Assuming my connection is actually the one I'm paying for, is there a way to get what I pay for, speed wise??

Just curious. The DSL is actually fine as it is for me, and it's still totally free for three more months, due to the PIA I dealt with with modem issues.

You can do that and it might speed things up a tiny bit, but it's not going to double your speed.

Where and how are you checking your speed now?

But I'm paying for the 3 mbps. Should I not be getting a higher number when testing?

Did you try this test? I find it pretty reliable.

SpeedTest.net

Also, like I suggested to Dave in the Vintage Forum, go to dslreports.com and run their tweak tests. They will recommend any changes you may need. Of course, YMMV.

messing with the mtu setting will affect you in a negative way. From my poor memory tweaking this setting will result in email failure.

sometimes something that sounds better isnt.

1536 according to your link. I'll check the link, but I'm not tech savy enough to mess with too much. I'm just curious.

I'm not going to mess with much. I don't want to end up having to talk to tech support. That is a waste of time.

Just wondering why, if I'm paying for the more expensive connection, would I not be getting it?

Though I am getting more than the 1 mbps, which is the other plan.

Or is this like the old modem issue...you could have a 56K modem(or whatever it was), but your connection speed varied based on many other factors.

remember the wording in the contract of what you buy it always says up to it never guarantees an exact throughput.
