Until those root causes are dealt with, crime will continue to plague society. "Locking them up" isn't the long term answer. While it may provide the public with some sense of security, it does nothing to prevent the cycle of violence from repeating itself.

Do you think that they honestly can be dealt with? It's a sad reality but I really don't see it happening.

I agree that "Locking them up" doesn't fix all the problems. But I do know that the fact is, I am more afraid of being locked up than just knowing that crime is wrong. It is a good deterrent with people that have something to lose. If you don't have anything to lose then it's not that big of a deterrent.

from some one who has been "locked" up.. jail does nothing to deter crime.. yes a normal person such as yourself kev would be scared BUT most of the people i met during my brief stay - loved jail - "three hots and a cot"

also it's the same to think that speeding tickets deter many of use from speeding - just doesn't happen
