Insurance for a beater...
I'm looking at buying an old SUV (most prabably an exploder) and wondering how much it will add to my insurance. The car will be around 3K and I can live without the comprehensive part. I have a perfect driving record.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Mas, it's the bodily injury coverages that cost $$ and I'd guess the cost varies by zip code too. Now that you have a home, I'm hoping/guessing you have at least 100/300 in bodily injury coverage on your vehicle. I would suggest the same coverage for a beater.
I'd guess even with a perfect record you'd spend at least $500.00 or more if you have no collision coverage, fire and theft is usually pretty cheap and is good to have coverage for glass, windshield, etc.
Run it by your agent using a particular vehicle to get an accurate estimate.

... on second thoughts, if I don't need comprehensive then why do I need any insurance for the beater on top of what I already have?

15 years ago, I drove a beater retired postal jeep while waiitng for a settlement after an accident. I live in West Springfield and the cost was just about $600, more than I paid for the jeep.
