I've spent a week there a few years back. Bunch of friends rented a house for a week and just partied!

Bars are nice, food was great, except one time the shellfish wasn't so fresh . I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant, but it's hard to not find a good meal down there.

Golfing, beach and cruising in a SUV with 8 people stuffed in it to get around (we only brought one car over ) was great. Carliey (sp?) Simon's bar/club was great also! Some famous jazz player was there the night we went and had a great time!

Of course there are the typical tourist traps you need to go... Black Dog, and Bad Dog

HAVE FUN!!!!

Once you get there you will see that any advice would be sort of pointless. It is all right there in about 3 or 4 square blocks. Since you are taking a car over, I suggest driving up to Oak Bluffs while you are there. Not as upsacale as Edgartown, but fun. My wife and I have gone two or three times in the summer. We rent scooters and have a blast driving around.

As it is fall, you may want to see if the stripers are running yet. When they are, you can surf cast for them off of south beach.

Oak Bluff's at night is cool. Just rent some mopeds and kick it around.

I actually just went last weekend for 3 nights and stayed in edgartown also. took my car over though which i would suggest if you want to see the island properly. mopeds/cabs and other transport are all overpriced like the rest of the island so you might as well take your car with you.

things you should see:
aquina beaches - aka cliff beaches
the beach between edgatown and oaks bluff is nice as well

eat at:
spice of life cafe (lunch) /sweet life cafe (nice dinner)
any of the inns up island are very good

Other than that, in my opinion, MV is overpriced and still exists only because of chicks bugging their significant others for a romantic weekend away. If its not already planned I would buy yourself two plane tickets to somewhere hot for less than what the hotels cost and have more to see and do. Either that or drive to Newport or Montreal instead. Just my 2 cents.....

If you've never been then its definately worth going. Fantastic restaurants, great nightlife, good shopping, gorgeous women, weaker dollar and cultural charm. Tons of stuff to do.
