I live close to Leominster, and my Girlfriend is from the next town over.
Most of Leominster is nice... however like any fairly decent sized city there are some bad areas...(you'll know when you see them)
Surrounding towns are that of Lunenburg, which is a rather nice town, I just can't afford to live there, and Fitchburg.. There are some places in fitchburg I refuse to Drive my S through for fear of being shot =>

There a ton of country clubs in the area, lots of places to fish..
As far as hunting goes I would assume you would have to make a small trek west, or north..

js!

Where are you coming from.....it would help me contextualize my answer.

I just moved to the Worcester region from Philly and really like the area. There is great access to fresh and salt water fishing (from what I've read) and plenty of outdoor space! I have never felt unsafe where ever I've wandered to.

The New England Owners group is very active with events and drives. What could be better than moving somewhere with built in friends!

Leominster (and its sister city, Fitchburg) feel like really old parts of the state, sections of Fitchburg or its environs look eldritch to me.
You will be a doable drive to Boston (good first time reataurants include Legal Sea Food, the NO Name Restaurant and the Top Of The Hub in the Prudential Center. The first time you visit Boston, do A duck (DUKW) tour in a refurbished World War II amphibious truck. You will certainly want to check out the Fanuel Hall marketplace, an eating/shopping mecca adjacent to Fanuel Hall, a major site during the American Revolution. ) and Worcester, pronounced Wisster to the locals, home to the Centrum, a convention/concert center (some interesting highlights include Elm Park and Bancroft Tower, just up the hill from the home of the judge in the famous Sacco and Vanzetti case). Within an hour's drive are the towns of Lexinton and Concord, site of the Shot Heard 'Round he WOrld and Hopkington, the start line of the Boston Marathon.
You will also be close to Mt. Monadnock and Mt. Wachusett, good hiking mountains, well what passes for mountains in southern New England. You'll also be a couple hours from the White Mountains and the famous Mt. Washington, site of the highest surface wind on the planet, 235 MPH back in the 30's, a challenging climb that has taken a number of climbs. It also features a cog railway and a road for cars that is the locale for a running race.
Gardner, just west along Rt. 2 has several furniture factories with outlets to give you a shot at bargains.
You can do a day trip to Freeport, Maine (but an overnight would be better) home of LL Bean, open 24/7/365. The S probably won't be adequate for the shopping on this trip, given the LL Bean outlet (hit or miss, but tremendous deal can be had! and nd the rest of Freeport.) For luxury the Harraseekett Inn can't be beat but the Freeport Inn offers good amenities at bargain prices. Kittery, on the way, is home to dozens of outlet shops and the Kittery Trading Post, an outdoor just over the state line from New Hampshire, outfitter par excellence.
Other points of interest for day trips include Old Sturbridge Village, Plimouth Plantation, Rockport/Gloucester, The Basketball Hall of Fame and the Springfield Armory, the Sandwich Glass Museum and Heritage Plantation, in MA; the Mark Twain House (Hartford), Mystic Seaport, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos in Connecticut; Newport (RI) with its mansions; Ben and Jerry's base of operations, as well as a Corvette Museum in Springfield VT.
