Default Michael Phelps's breakfast

Hi all,

Knowing that an Olympian eats like that, it makes me feel very good about my diet.

I am thinking of supersizing my lunch.

Yeah, except he burns 4000 calories in a workout. I rode an hour on my bike trainer and burned almost 700 calories once, and I cannot imagine what it's gotta be like to put out 6x that kind of power, on a practice run.

don't get me wrong I love to eat and have been doing a lot of it for a long time but...
I can't begin to comprehend the raw volume of trying to squeeze that much food into your stomach.

I consumed a individual Uno's pizza this weekend in one sitting. That's about 2400 calories or something. It wasn't worth it and unfortunately I do not have Phelps-like-calorie-burning-power.

I wonder how many calories I will burn after swimming one lap in an Olympics size pool.

I did seven yesterday. I was exhausted and very hungry.....

....then I had an oven baked ragatoni with lots of cheese.

Yeah, I think you clearly have to build up to that level. I'd imagine the whole digestive process is as robust, efficient, and fast as his swimming. I'm surprised he still eats "meals" and not just, you know, constantly.

you don't actually burn very many calories when you are swimming.
I think 1 lap is probably about 30-50 calories.

His metabolism has to be so high that as soon as the food hits his
stomach his body is burning the calories.

I think that clearly depends on how fast you swim, though. The faster you go, you need exponentially higher amounts of energy. Same deal with a boat.

Ever since I started going back to the gym, I've found myself getting hungry more often and sleep less.

The lunch I had just now will be gone in like 3 hours. I will be looking for a mid afternoon snacks soon (usually a banana).

Hitting the gym as soon as we get home. Shoot a few hoops (may be a pickup game), lift some weights. If I still have anything left, I would go swimming until I can't move my legs anymore.
