So our house had some issues.
The rot that the home inspector passed off as "just some trim needing some replacement" turned into a huge rotten hole in my rim joist and some carpenter ants.
The header over the sliding doors was rotten and full of ants. Soooo... I pulled it apart.
The big window in the photo is 3'x9'. I paid someone to take that sucker out. No way I was going to mess with that. Rest of the work I did myself.
Here is the project at the start, what the house looked like before. Rot was down in the corner of the junction of deck/house/garage.
Here is the progress.
Corner of the house/garage rebuilt and trimmed out.
New wall build and new Marvin windows and sliding french door installed.
Notice that the deck is pulled up. Lucky I did that, deck is not build right at all. So that will have to come out in the spring and get fixed....ugh.
And the finished project. I have since cleaned up and put the deck back.
And on the inside I added a pellet stove. Harman XXV.
Here are some other photos.
I built the hearth myself. Its just slate. Black grout and I used some of my left over cherry flooring to bind it.
Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to the cold weather.
Anybody else doing anything?
STEVE??? Any projects on tap?
I have an attic that I need to clean out and add additional insulation. Vents in the celing that I am not sure WHAT to do with as they are old and need to be sealed up but I can't easily replicate the celing texture.(might have to experiment to try to!)
Then I need to replace a bathroom fan and hook up the attic vent fan at the same time. Again OH WHAT FUN!
Hopefully sealing up and laying down more insulation will help with the heating bills.
Jim get a some Great Stuff.
Red Can for big holes.
Blue can for around doorways and windows.
Caulk where you can.
Get some insulation. Its a BIATCH to put in but will save you in the long run. Make sure you wear protective gear.

If you use this stuff, make sure you're wearing gloves and some clothes you are ready to throw away. Once this stuff touches your clothes or skin it will NOT come off.
I am thinking once I am done with the Attic I will be insulating the sub flooring and around some of the basement foundation.
OH AND I GOT A COOL TOY TOO. It's a laser pyromiter. I was running around taking the temp of the floor the wall the light, the cats, ME, the gf. I will be using it to check for hot spots and cool spots / drafts around the house so that I can insulate and seal them better.
